Airline expansion to create jobs
Flybe
Up to 430 jobs could be created in the region
Low cost airline Flybe is to increase the number of flights from Birmingham to European destinations which could create more than 400 new jobs.

The company is to introduce seven new routes from Birmingham International Airport to destinations including Malaga and Alicante in 2005.

The airline says it will mean an extra 430,000 seats, taking the firm's total capacity at Birmingham to 2m.

Flybe's sales director Mike Rutter says it is good news for the local economy.

Under the company's new plans, flights will be available to Alicante, Malaga, Murcia, Faro, Palma, Almeria and Geneva.

The company says up to 430 jobs could be created in the West Midlands, with 35 vacancies opening up with Flybe and 20 at Birmingham International Airport.

The rest would be in the local leisure and tourism industry.
