A brawl after a karaoke contest at a football club left a town councillor needing hospital treatment. West Mercia Police say they are investigating the fight at Ludlow Town Football Club on Saturday, which involved as many as 30 people.
According to eyewitnesses, the fighting resembled a scene from the Wild West.
Ludlow's deputy mayor, Terry Burgoyne, who was at the event, said fellow town councillor Andrew Orsborn was pushed to the floor and punched and kicked.
'Spoiled event'
He said Mr Orsborn was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, where he received treatment for cuts and bruises.
Another person also received hospital treatment.
Mr Burgoyne said: "We were leaving the premises when Councillor Orsborn was attacked.
"It was such a shock. This was a well-run, well-organised event and the football club was a wonderful venue but people got in and started causing trouble.
"It's just a shame the event was spoiled for the vast majority of people who were there to enjoy themselves."
Police held talks with club officials on Monday in an effort to prevent a repeat of the trouble.
Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them.
