A 500,000 home security project is proving a success in Aston. The Aston Pride Community Safety Team said burglaries in the area were at an "all time low" with only five incidents being reported in July.
Five hundred burglar alarms were installed in homes and businesses across the town as part of the project.
A spokesman from the safety team said the alarms had been fitted between January and May and had been successful in reducing burglary.
Panic buttons
Using wireless technology, the alarms also contain personal panic buttons and when activated are directly connected to the police.
Sgt Dave Shergold, of the Aston Pride Community Safety Team, said: "They have also been proven to make residents feel safe and confident in actually leaving their homes."
Figures for the area show that in 2002 to 2003 there were 192 burglaries.
This dropped to 133 during 2003 to 2004 and from April this year there has been 34 recorded burglaries.
During the last month of July there were just five burglaries in the area.
