A man whose son's friend died after being hit by lightning has called for a minute's silence to be held by the dead boy's favourite football team. Joseph Wharton is believed to have been camping at his friend Michael Lees' house in Cresswell Crescent, Bloxwich, when he was hit on Tuesday morning.
Michael's father Shaun will be asking Wolverhampton Wanderers to pay tribute to the teenager at their first home match of the season.
Joseph was a dedicated Wolves fan.
Ticket holder
Mr Lees said: "We would like to ask the Molineux to hold a minute's silence at their first home match next week.
"That's where Joe would be every home game as he is a ticket holder."
Mr Lees said he was "devastated" by the death and described Joseph as "a smashing lad".
"He knew what to do in life. He had trials with West Bromwich Albion and was adult enough to know he needed to get a trade as well.
"He was my son's best mate and round here, your son's best mate is part of your family."
Paramedics attempted to revive Joseph at Mr Lees' house before he was transferred to hospital where he later died.
