About 250,000 Land Rovers built at the company's Solihull plant have been recalled after defects were found. Problems that could cause brake failure and fires have been found in two types of model, the company said.
Owners of the Discovery Series 2 model and the Defender four-by-four are being asked to take them for remedial work.
The cars were built at the firm's factory between September 1998 and December 2003 but a company spokesman said no drivers had been hurt.
One of the problems involves a faulty hydraulic ABS brake unit that could spring a leak.
A bolt securing the system's high-pressure pipe is also thought to possibly cause inflammable liquid to spew into the engine compartment sparking a fire.
The third fault concerns the throttle and apparently causes the car to continue accelerating when the driver tries to slow down.
A Land Rover spokesman said there had been a number of incidents with the cars concerned, but no drivers have been hurt.
