Father Crane said one homeless man nearly moved him to tears |
A Birmingham priest is spending each day outside his church to highlight the plight of the homeless. Father Ronald Crane will continue to brave the cold outside Emmanuel Church in Wylde Green, Sutton Coldfield, during the run-up to Christmas.
He hopes his efforts will raise a substantial amount of money for three charities that work with the homeless.
Father Crane said he has been deeply touched by some acts of generosity.
"Even in a leafy suburb like Wylde Green we have some young men who are homeless," he said.
"I was nearly reduced to tears earlier today, when we were collecting money so that they can have a Christmas dinner, and one of the young men who sleeps rough around here walked over and put two pound coins in my tin."
Homeless charity Shelter said in 1999 to 2000 it dealt with nearly 20,000 people across the UK who said they had nowhere to go the night they got in touch.
