Pigeon survives crash Channel crossing
A French racing pigeon which survived crashing into a British couple's car and then crossed the Channel while stuck in the grille is being nursed back to health.

The bird flew into George and Irene Cowie's Citroen C5 in France, but was only discovered two days after they returned to their home in Wellesbourne, near Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, following a weekend break.

Unable to free the pigeon, Mr Cowie took his car to garage owner Robin Coldicott and his wife Sue - a former veterinary nurse - in Mickleton, Gloucestershire, who retrieved it.

They dubbed the pigeon - who has a broken leg and damaged wing - Pierre after discovering an identity tag.

Mr and Mrs Coldicott are caring for Pierre until he is reunited with his owner in Calais.

Mr Cowie, a 59-year-old management consultant, said: "I thought I saw a feather sticking out of the grille, but when I bent down to pull it out, I discovered it was a bird."
