Casino plans set for rejection
Plans for a new casino, which would create more than 70 jobs in the Black Country, are set to be rejected by councillors.

The proposed conversion of a former pub in Smethwick has attracted a number of objections from nearby residents.

Blue Chip Casinos wants to convert the former Barleycorn pub, in Bearwood Road, into a casino, creating 73 jobs.

A report to Sandwell Council's planning committee said if the plans were approved the 1930s building would be painted red, white and blue to resemble an ocean liner.

There would be a car park for 30 cars and it would be open from 1100 BST until 0600 BST the following day.

But residents are concerned about noise and a lack of off-street parking to accommodate the venue.

The planning committee is due to meet on Wednesday to discuss the plan which has been recommended for refusal.
