Police have described the thousands of fans who descended on Sunderland's Stadium of Light for an Oasis gig as "good natured". There were 12 arrests on Wednesday night, for drunkenness, assault, criminal damage and licensing offences. The city centre was busy afterwards, but a police spokesman said no public order offences were committed. He added the event, which attracted a crowd of 48,000, had passed off successfully and safely. It was the second major music coup for the Stadium of Light in a week, with Take That playing to 160,000 people over two nights last weekend.
