Plans unveiled for cricket club

A hotel is planned as part of the Riverside development

Durham County Cricket Club has unveiled plans for a �45m development at the club's Riverside headquarters in Chester-le-Street.

Proposals include a 150 bed hotel, a new entrance building for the box office and club shop, and a conference space for up to 700 delegates.

Temporary seating would be made permanent, increasing the capacity of the ground by 4,000 to 20,000.

Other additions include permanent floodlights and new scoreboards.

Planning permission has already been granted for phase one, an extension to one of the terraces.

The timescale of the future phases has not yet been determined but work is expected to take place over the next two or three years.

Durham County Cricket Club chief executive David Harker said: "The ground development is essential if we are to continue to stage international cricket.

"It positions Riverside as a leading regional venue and Durham CCC as a major local employer."

A public exhibition of the proposed development will run at the club all next week from Monday.
