Green fuel for council vehicles
Councillor George Patterson
It is part of steps to cut carbon dioxide emissions
A fleet of council vehicles will be running on greener fuel as part of an environmentally-friendly drive.

All Easington District Council's vehicles are now using bio-plus diesel fuel, which has reduced carbon dioxide emissions and fewer pollutants.

The fuel is a mix of 95% mineral diesel and 5% biodiesel, which is derived from soy, palm, rape, sunflower and used cooking oil.

No modification to the vehicles has been needed.

Council executive member of environment George Patterson said: "This is a major step towards the provision of sustainable energy throughout the district council's fleet.

"We already purchase the electricity supply for the council's main complex from Npower's renewable energy sources and this new move takes a step further in helping reduce carbon dioxide emissions which is one of the main causes of global warming."
