Council is stuck in to recycling
A city council is stepping up its efforts to get householders to make more use of recycling facilities.

More than 120,000 stickers have been put on wheelie bins in Sunderland to remind householders to recycle paper, cans and glass bottles every fortnight.

Posters will start appearing in the city and on buses at the end of the month and fridge magnets will be posted to houses to reinforce the message.

The city has seen recycling rates improve by seven fold since 2003.

But it still needs to do more to reach the city's required levels.

Householders in Sunderland have been provided with Kerb-it boxes for paper, glass and metal cans.

Green-it wheelie bins have also been provided to some homes for garden waste.
