Police install 'crime postboxes'
Communities in north-west Durham are being urged to use new police postboxes to report non-urgent crimes.

The metal, lockable boxes are being installed in Delves Lane, Crookhall and east Consett, as part of Durham Police's ongoing Streetsafe campaign.

Officers hope the move will encourage ideas and information from residents.

It's also thought that the boxes will offer another way of getting in touch for those who might be reluctant to talk directly to the police.

PC Jonathan Hamill said: "The boxes are about making us more accessible to residents and reassuring them we are keen to tackle local problems.

"We look forward to receiving any information, especially about crime or anti-social behaviour which might be taking place."

Funding for the project has come from Derwentside community project development fund and the Delves Lane, Crookhall and Consett east partnership.
