Sinking feeling at bizarre auction
Kitchen sink
Everything, including the kitchen sink, is being auctioned off
A kitchen sink and a false leg are the stars of an auction with a difference being held on Monday.

They are some of the items left on Metro trains across Tyne and Wear.

And Metro operator Nexus is auctioning the lot off for charity.

More than 1,000 items are included in the auction, being held at a Sunderland Metro station.

All were left by passengers during 2002 and handed in as lost property.

A Nexus spokesman said: "There are some strange things on offer this time around.

Local charities

"The things people leave on trains can really make the mind boggle, but we think the kitchen basin handed in recently just about takes the biscuit."

Cash raised from the auction, at the Park Lane Metro station in Sunderland, will go to local charities.

The spokesman added: "Other items include a false leg, several wigs and a dog, affectionately called "Day Rover" by Metro staff."

Sunderland city mayor, Peter Gibson and his wife, Betty, will act as auctioneers.
