Broadband help at hand
Computer users across the north-east of England are being given vital advice on how to use new Internet technology.

A County Durham company is to offer free advice to people about to switch to high-speed broadband connections.

BroadbandBrokers, based in the former steel town of Consett, claims to offer the first service of its kind in the UK, aimed at informing potential users about available providers.

The company was formed in the wake of government-ordered deregulation of broadband technology to Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

The government's has said it wants the UK to have the most extensive and competitive broadband market in Europe by 2005.

Typically brodband offers internet connections up to 10 times faster than normal.

Paul Williams from BroadbandBrokers, said: "There are more than 40 companies who supply broadband, and making the right choice can be confusing.

"Our goal is to make it easy to understand what's on offer for the customer so they can make an informed choice."
