Nearly half of the people living in an area of the north-east of England are overweight, according to a report. A commission set up to look at tackling obesity in South Tyneside will present its findings on Tuesday.
Its report states that according to a Lifestyle Survey, 47% of the borough's residents are overweight.
South Tyneside Council's social care and health strategy committee will hear the progress that has been made and what still needs to be done.
The commission's report will be presented by innovation officer Paul Baldasera and sets out its findings so far and details of local and national health initiatives.

It also gives the progress of the South Tyneside Obesity Strategy, which aims to promote healthier lifestyles and provide better and more co-ordinated support and treatment for obese and overweight people.
Mr Baldasera said: "The report details findings to date and lays out the work we still need to do.
"Ultimately when our work is finished, it will make a number of recommendations which will inform the South Tyneside Obesity Strategy.
"This will help the council and partners coordinate all healthy lifestyle initiatives and allow us to concentrate on helping people in ways that we know are effective."
