Corporal Paul Long was killed in Majar el-Kabir last June.

Cpl Paul Long, a Royal Military policeman from South Shields, was one of six Red Caps killed by a mob in an Iraqi police station last June.

His brother Byron, and mother Pat, say too many British soldiers have died.

Their comments come on the day that the Cabinet is set to consider a report on the US request for British support.

Mr Long said: "Britain has already lost far too many young men.

"Sending them to a more volatile area, where the Americans have stirred up a hornets' nest, is only going to make it worse."

In July he dismissed the findings of the Butler Report, and called upon Tony Blair to apologise for sending troops to Iraq.

Mrs Long said: "I think they should bring the troops home.

"There's a lot of us mourning for our children, and I wouldn't like to see anybody else go through what we've gone through."
