Striker Carroll in assault arrest

Mr Carroll has been released on bail pending further inquiries

Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll has been arrested on suspicion of assault following a fight at a nightclub in the city.

A man suffered minor head injuries during the incident at Blu Bamboo in the Bigg Market early on Monday.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.

Mr Carroll, 20, was questioned on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and released on bail pending further inquiries.
