An extra train has been laid on for football fans from North Tyneside hoping to cheer on their side in the FA Vase final at Wembley.

Up to 10,000 fans are expected to travel to London to support Whitley Bay in their clash against Glossop North End on Sunday.

The town has also been showing it is behind the team with local traders painting hoardings blue and white.

And a bakery has been selling cakes and biscuits iced in the team colours.

Known locally as the Seahorses, the club's manager Ian Chandler scored when they last won the FA Vase in 2002.

Operator National Express East Coast is running an additional train from Newcastle at 0830 BST, calling at Durham and Darlington only.

Susan Goldsmith, National Express East Coast managing director, said: "As the first North East team to compete in a final at the magnificent new Wembley Stadium, we know how important this match is to many of the region's football fans."
