A cordon placed around part of a Northumberland beach following the discovery of what was believed to be an unexploded bomb has been lifted. Police were called to the Links in Seaton Sluice after reports that a device had been washed ashore.
An army bomb disposal squad arrived from Catterick Garrison, and found it to be an inert device, probably a World War II munitions shell.
It was removed by police, and the area re-opened to the public.
Two nearby roads which were closed during the alert are also now open to traffic.
