Beethoven is played to make the bus station 'uncool'

Youths have been congregating at the new �4.2m bus station in Stanley, County Durham, intimidating travellers.

To tackle the problem police are working with Derwentside District Council and plan to play Beethoven and Mozart to make the site "uncool."

Nexus, which runs the Tyne and Wear Metro train system, has been playing music at its stations since 1997.

It was one of the first transport authority's in England to adopt the scheme to deter teenagers from gathering and causing a nuisance.

Mike Parker, director general of Nexus, said: "Playing classical music has proved very useful in reducing anti-social behaviour and making passengers feel more comfortable.
