A �10m project to transform a park on Tyneside to its former Victorian glory has been completed. Saltwell Park in Gateshead has been undergoing restoration work for the past five years.
On Thursday, it comes to an end when a woodland valley at the heart of the park with waterfalls, pools and cascades, known as the Dene, reopens.
The refurbished aviary, a former monkey house, and an old stable block will also be unveiled.
Earlier restoration work transformed Saltwell Towers, a ruined Victorian mansion, into a visitor centre, hosting a cafe and an exhibition of the park's history.
The park is managed by Gateshead Council and the work has been partly funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
