Man charged over bridge protest
Stephen Fletcher of Fathers 4 Justice
Mr Fletcher got onto the bridge on Thursday night
A man who allegedly staged a protest on the Tyne Bridge has been charged with conspiring to cause a public nuisance.

Stephen Fletcher, 34, from Red House in Sunderland, allegedly evaded several police officers on Thursday night to scale the bridge dressed as Superman.

Security had been tight ahead of the Labour Party conference taking place in Gateshead until Sunday.

Mr Fletcher appeared before magistrates on Saturday and was released on conditional bail.

A police spokeswoman said Mr Fletcher, from the Fathers 4 Justice pressure group, will appear at court again at a later date.
