Photo move in graffiti clean-up
Graffiti on garage door
The idea aims to match "tags" with offenders
Graffiti is being photographed and sent to police within hours of it appearing to try to tackle the problem.

Northumberland County Council's street wardens are taking photos in an attempt to match signatures known as "tags" with offenders.

Within two hours of the graffiti being reported, the pictures are e-mailed to Northumbria Police for analysis.

The pictures are being circulated to schools so pupils can report in confidence if they recognise tags.

Council executive member for health and wellbeing, Councillor Tony Reid, said: "Graffiti blights estates and communities, raises fear of crime and costs thousands of pounds to clean up and remove.

"Our wardens share information with police and this will help in the fight to keep our communities looking spick and span."
