Unit tackles anti-social problems
A group set up to co-ordinate the fight against anti-social behaviour is urging Teessiders to get in contact rather than suffering in silence.

Hartlepool's Anti-Social Behaviour Unit says it has considerable expertise in dealing with such problems.

The unit, a partnership between Hartlepool Council and Cleveland Police, is based in Jutland Road.

Anti-social behaviour officer Nicholas Stone says it is important that people are aware that the unit can help.

He said: "Now that the lighter nights are here, apparently minor problems, such as gangs of youths gathering near homes, can cause a lot of disturbance and upset - particularly when alcohol is involved.

"Although the unit has an enforcement role which can involve taking action against offenders, we also advise and mediate to try and resolve problems amicably.

"We are keen to promote tolerance and understanding, particularly between the generations, and we will always try to reach a compromise."
