Children as young as four and five are to be educated about the dangers of drugs in a bid to win the war on illegal substances on Teesside. Middlesbrough's Drug Education Team is developing a programme that educates children throughout their school life.
It would start with teaching about the safe use of medicines, progressing to the dangers of drugs.
The plan is part of a three-pronged approach involving the police, NHS and education services.
The education team is part of the Drug Action Team - a local partnership which aims to deliver the government's drug strategy at a local level, with representatives from the local authority, health, probation, the prison service and the voluntary sector.
