An historic lifeboat, restored by a team of volunteers in Hartlepool, is being given a royal seal of approval. The boat, the Princess Royal, saved the lives of 94 people during service in Hartlepool between 1939 and 1968.
The vessel was originally dedicated by the late Princess Royal, HRH Princess Mary, at a ceremony in 1941.
The current Princess Royal will attend a ceremony on Monday, marking the first time a boat has been dedicated by two Princesses Royal.
During her visit, Princess Anne will unveil a plaque and meet the team of volunteers who have been restoring the lifeboat for the last four and a half years.
Weather permitting, there will also be a fly-past by two Jaguar fighter planes from 41 Squadron.
Brian Stringer, chairman of the Princess Royal Restoration Trust, said: "Everyone involved with the trust is absolutely thrilled that the lifeboat is being dedicated to the Princess Royal.
"In a way, history will be repeating itself because the lifeboat is being dedicated by the Princess Royal for the second time.
"We have worked tremendously hard over the last four and a half years restoring the boat and I am sure the dedication ceremony is going to be a very emotional day for all of us."
The restored lifeboat will be used for educational visits by schoolchildren, and trips around the Marina and Hartlepool Harbour.
