Stadium sale gives club lifeline
Reynolds Arena
The future of Darlington Football Club is secure for now
The immediate future of Darlington Football Club has been secured following the sale of its stadium.

The agreement announced on Wednesday will see the Reynolds Arena sold to members of the Sterling Consortium.

Former chairman George Reynolds called in administrators last year over club debts of more than 1m.

The administrators said if an agreement had not been reached the only other realistic alternative would have been to close the Third Division club.

International stars

The deal will enable the struggling club to fulfil its fixtures until the end of the season.

The long-term future is still in doubt but the stadium agreement will provide more time for further discussions to take place with the major creditors.

Last year, fans from the Darlington Supporters Trust set about trying to raise cash to support the club.

Collections also took place among supporters during a number of games, and former international stars, including Paul Gascoigne, Brian Robson and Kenny Dalglish took part in a number of fundraising matches.
