The turbines will be erected 1.5km off the coast |
Fishermen from east Cleveland are concerned their livelihoods could be threatened, if plans for an offshore wind farm get the go ahead. EDF Energy want to erect 30 wind turbines, 1.5km off the Redcar coast.
However for safety reasons, fishermen would not be allowed to take their vessels closer than 30 metres from each turbine.
Many people living nearby have also expressed concern about the visual impact of the turbines.
An environmental impact assessment is set to be completed by the middle of this month, and then EDF Energy will apply for consent from the government.
Tony Scorer, from EDF Energy, says more greener energy is needed but Dave Marshall, who has been fishing for 24 years, said the impact of the turbines will be great.
