Cancer victim urges sunbed action
Samantha Broadbent
Samantha Broadbent is calling for a change in the law on sunbeds
A Teesside woman is calling on the government to introduce compulsory health warnings in sunbed salons.

Samantha Broadbent, 31, from Stockton, has terminal skin cancer which she believes was caused by having intensive sessions in several salons.

She claims she was left ignorant to the extent of the risks associated with using sunbeds.

Stockton South MP Dari Taylor is also backing Ms Broadbent's fight for a change in the law.

'Safety regulations'

Ms Broadbent spent nine minutes, three times a week on sunbeds ahead of her wedding.

But four years, later she is suffering from malignant skin cancer which she firmly believes was a direct result of the sessions.

She said: "There were no health warnings whatsoever, no safety regulations and no-one advised me that with pale skin and freckles I should only be on a minimum time."

She has collected 3,000 signatures from people backing her campaign for more health warnings.

But the Department of Health has said it has no plans to change the law.
