Major investment to create jobs
Middlesbrough Art Gallery
Among the projects to benefit is the planned Middlesbrough Art Gallery
Nearly 1,000 jobs will be created after 24m was announced for regeneration projects on Teesside, it has been forecast.

The Tees Valley Partnership is planning to spend the money on around 50 projects across the area.

Among those to benefit will be the planned Middlesbrough Art Galley which will get 2.75m.

Other schemes receiving funding will be the University of Teesside's digital city project and Hartlepool's Victoria Harbour project.

The partnership hopes the spending for 2004/05 will create almost 1,000 jobs and set up 350 businesses.

Partnership chairman Alistair Arkley said it was part of the vision for regenerating the area and that people will see things changing for the better.

He said: "I think there is a much closer working together by Middlesbrough and Stockton into what they can do on both sides of the river.

"It seems to make a lot of sense to us and as a consequence there is a 200,000 feasibility study going on, to which the partnership has contributed a substantial amount."
