Cumbrian dairy farmers have said they are pleased a cheese company has decided to give them more money for their milk. Farmers had picketed the Dairy Crest plant in Aspatria, Cumbria, two months ago, demanding a 2p per litre increase in the price they were paid.
Dairy Crest confirmed on Thursday that it is to pay up - but only for milk that will be used to make cheese.

Farmers from Cumbria and Scotland joined forces for the protest outside the Dairy Crest plant to highlight what they claimed was a shortfall in the price the company pays for its milk.
Ian Bulman from the National Farmers' Union in Cumbria hopes a further agreement can soon be reached for all milk.
He said: "Obviously Dairy Crest are in the business to make money, which they are exceptionally good at.
"At the end of the day there should be enough in a litre of milk for everyone to make a living out of."
