Riverside festival hailed a success
Stockton Riverside festival
About 200,000 people attended the 10-day event
A massive arts festival on Teesside has attracted about 200,000 people, officials say.

The 10-day Stockton international riverside festival, featured acts from all over the world, and ended on Sunday.

The festival, in its 16th year, concluded a tribute to the Beatles and Australian pop band Cat Empire.

The festival featured live music, street art and theatre productions by three British companies.

The festival's artistic director, Frank Wilson, said: "This year's festival has benefited from a big increase in support from the Arts Council of England.

"We have invested that support in helping these English companies create exciting new large-scale work.

"It has enabled us to make the River Tees the main focus of this year's festival."

The last day of the event saw Polish company KTO Theatre performing an 'aquatic parade' on Stockton High Street, with tens of thousands of people lining the streets.

Around 80 people were plucked from the crowd to be at the heart of the action.
