New cycle crossing on track
Cyclists
The Highways Agency is building tracks for vulnerable road users

Work on a cycle track to stop people crossing the A19 near Billingham will start on Monday.

The cycle track will be constructed on the A139 Billingham Viaduct which crosses the A19.

The Highways Agency, in partnership with Stockton Council, is to help fund and construct the dedicated cycle track over the A19.

The cycle track will link into the National Cycle Route 14.

It is being built as part of the Highways Agency commitment to providing safe crossing points on the motorway and trunk road network for "vulnerable" road users, such as cyclists, pedestrians and equestrians.

The crossing has been identified by Stockton Council and Sustrans as a key part of the strategic cycle network within the borough.

The work will continue for 12 weeks.

During that time the A139 Billingham Viaduct will operate one-way eastbound, the westbound traffic will be diverted via the A19.
