Usain Bolt will compete against top British sprinters on Sunday |
Olympic champion Usain Bolt is to run in the UK on a special temporary track built by a Sussex-based company. The track will be set up in Deansgate, central Manchester for Sunday's race and is being packed for the trip by the Scaynes Hill company on Thursday. The track must be laid in 24 hours and removed in 12 hours to make way for rush-hour traffic on Monday morning. The race on Sunday will see Usain Bolt compete against top British sprinters Simeon Williamson and Marlon Devonish. "Our system is almost as quick to get in and out as Usain himself," said Rob Page, director of the manufacturers, Event Floor. The track's base will be lifted from ground level to 1100mm (3ft 6ins) to ensure a perfectly flat running surface and eliminate the camber of the road. The race will be screened live on the BBC and across the USA on network television. Mr Bolt, who is a keen Manchester United fan, is due to meet the Manchester United team at their training ground and will be presented on the pitch at Old Trafford at half-time during Saturday's match against Arsenal. Mr Bolt is believed to have offered Christiano Ronaldo some hints on sprinting in exchange for a signed shirt.
