Ruth Kelly is looking again at the Sheepcote Valley site

Thursday is the final day for written representations to be made to Local Government Secretary Ruth Kelly.

She is reviewing the club's plans for a 22,000-seater stadium at Falmer after permission granted by John Prescott in October 2005 was quashed.

Ms Kelly had asked for information about how all the sites were assessed at a public inquiry over two years ago.

Preferred option

She has said that, in particular, there were "deficiencies" in the evidence on the brownfield Sheepcote Valley site.

Thursday's deadline is for the football club and other bodies which gave evidence at the inquiry to make representations to the government.

Feasibility studies were conducted for nine sites, including Sheepcote Valley and the club's preferred option at Falmer which was also backed by Brighton and Hove City Council and the city's MPs.

However, the plans prompted opposition from some Falmer residents, the parish council, Lewes District Council and conservation groups concerned at its proximity to the South Downs and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Ms Kelly is to consider whether to re-open the public inquiry or grant planning permission for the Falmer development.
