Motorist injured by falling tree

The driver suffered serious injuries as his car was crushed
An injured man had to be cut free from his car after a tree fell on the roof of the vehicle in Surrey.

The man suffered serious injuries when the tree came down in winds in Boxgrove Avenue, Guildford, on Thursday.

He was trapped in the Ford Escort for about 30 minutes following the incident and had to be cut free by crews from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.

Surrey Police said the motorist suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

He is believed to be undergoing treatment at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford.
