A zero tolerance approach will be taken towards troublemakers on Halloween and Bonfire Night, Surrey Police has said. Officers said they would be carrying out extra patrols to reduce instances of criminal damage and other offences.
They also urged retailers to watch out for youngsters buying large amounts of eggs and flour.
Temporary Supt Sharon Bush said: "In recent years a small minority of people have used this time of year as an excuse to cause trouble."
She added: "This year we are sending a clear message that Halloween and Bonfire Night is no reason to cause criminal damage or behave anti-socially.
"Halloween and Bonfire Night should be fun for everyone. We are not discouraging people from enjoying the festivities, however Surrey Police will not tolerate anti-social behaviour and we will use tough new powers available to us to robustly deal with those who commit offences."
She also asked parents to keep a close eye on their children and respect the wishes of those displaying a "No Trick or Treat" sticker.
