An artist is hoping to convince people in Surrey that recycling is the new rock'n'roll with an exhibition of recycled art and design.

Guitars made from plastic bottles and yoghurt pots are among work to be displayed at Guildford House Gallery, in the High Street, next year.

It is part of a Surrey-wide initiative to spark the interest of artists and craftspeople in recycled materials.

Schoolchildren and students are being asked to submit work for the show.

The initiative is the brainchild of Guildford Borough Council, which is working with Woking Borough Council and artist Caroline Jackman.

Local artists are being asked to put forward ideas for projects to raise awareness of recycling and its impact on climate change.

The successful artists will work with groups including schools and day centres to run design workshops.
