Con man 'sells left over tarmac'
A con man pretending to be from the Highways Agency has been trying to sell poor quality tarmac in Surrey.

The man has been operating in the Woking area, and threatened staff and property at a business in the town.

Surrey trading standards said he had already visited two businesses, saying he was mending roads nearby and had a load of tarmac left over.

In both cases, the tarmac was quickly laid down on their car parks, with one business told to pay 3,500.

The demand for money was accompanied by threats to damage property and people if the money was not paid.

Surrey Police said a car used in the second incident appeared to be marked as though it belonged to the Highways Agency.

Peter Denard, Surrey's trading standards officer, has urged residents and businesses to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
