Five more sites will be monitored by fixed and mobile cameras
Mobile and fixed cameras are being brought in at five accident black spots where crashes have resulted in 112 casualties in the past three years.

The Surrey Safety Camera Partnership (SSCP) said the move had been approved by the Department for Transport.

SSCP spokesman Duncan Knox said the casualties were caused by "excessive speed". He said the crashes included 31 fatal and serious injury accidents.

"The casualty figures indicate that we need to do something," he said.

ACCIDENT BLACK SPOTS NAMED
A318 Byfleet Road, New Haw
A232 Cheam Road, Ewell East
A318 New Haw Road, New Haw
A244 Copsem Lane, Esher
A307, Portsmouth Road, Thames Ditton

"Providing a fixed camera or mobile enforcement will make a big difference to speeds and make these roads safer for drivers and pedestrians."

The new sites were selected after they met government criteria showing they had a poor accident record, and surveys confirmed excessive speeds, he said.

Sites were analysed by road safety engineers and Surrey Police, he added.

Enforcement has begun on both the A244 and A307, with the other three sites becoming operational in the next few months.
