Domestic violence courts expanded

A special court service to deal with cases of domestic violence is set to be expanded across Suffolk following a pilot scheme in Ipswich.

The Specialist Domestic Violence Court was set up in the town last April.

Since then, there have been more guilty pleas and convictions recorded at the court than other courts in Suffolk, the county council said.

Weekly dedicated Domestic Violence Courts (DDVC) also began this month at Bury St Edmunds and Lowestoft.

All court staff including ushers and magistrates have also had training to deal with the victims of domestic violence.
