Green light for eco homes scheme

The homes will be available for rent, sale or shared ownership

Suffolk Housing Society has granted approval for work to start on 15 new affordable eco homes in a Norfolk town.

The properties will be built off Jubilee Close in Thetford and be available for rent, sale or shared ownership.

The housing society, based in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, approved the �2m housing scheme at its board meeting.

The homes will meet environmental standards including technology for the re-use of rainwater.

Steve Clarke, chief executive of Suffolk Housing Society, said he was "extremely pleased" with the announcement.

"We plan to work with our partners Iceni Homes and Key Communities to try to secure government grant funding to help part fund the �2m cost of the scheme," he said.

Building work is set to start in July, with the aim of completion in spring 2009.
