School trip girl left at services
Suffolk County Council
Suffolk County Council has started an investigation
An inquiry has been launched after a girl of 11 was left stranded at a French service station after a school trip coach drove off without her.

Olivia Shaw was left "absolutely aghast" after being left behind when the coach stopped for a rest break on the way to a chateau in Normandy.

Her mother, Amanda Shaw, said she has now taken Olivia out of Melton Primary School in Suffolk after the incident.

Suffolk County Council said it had started an inquiry into the incident.

Mrs Shaw, 39, said the incident happened on 11 September during Olivia's first school trip.

A spokeswoman for the local education authority said that a second head count on board the coach revealed that Olivia was missing and teachers immediately contacted the service station.

A female adult looked after Olivia until the coach returned nearly 20 minutes later.

The council spokeswoman said: "We are engaged in an investigation to establish what happened and why and see if any systems need to be changed as a result."
