NHS receives major funding boost
Patients in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambs health authority (NSC) will benefit from increased NHS spending of 700m over the next three years.

The extra funds will be used to help cut waiting lists for operations from a maximum of 18 months to 18 weeks by the end of 2008, an NSC spokesman said.

But some of the money would be used to balance the NSC's books, he added.

The funds will take total NSC health service spending to 3.1bn by 2007/2008.

The NSC's Director of Finance Paul Kemp said: "While this new allocation is certainly good news, the new money will need to be invested wisely to secure sustainable benefits.

"This year the NHS across NSC is overspending against its budget and will need to get back into balance next year," he added.

The cash increase was revealed by the Department of Health on Wednesday.
