BT cancels pensioner's 800 bill
Bob Church
Bob Church was told he had to pay the 800 BT bill
BT has waived a 78-year-old's 800 phone bill which he blamed on a rogue internet dialler on his computer.

Bob Church's phone was cut off when he refused to pay. It was reconnected but he was having to pay hundreds of pounds for calls which were not his.

On Friday within hours of a BBC News report, BT had cancelled the debt and gave Mr Church, of Felixstowe, 650.

In a statement BT said the ex-gratia payment in no way implied that BT was at fault or liable for the charges.

Mr Church, who has trouble walking and is prone to blackouts, said his computer was his window on the world and his lifeline.

Until BT's change of heart, he was paying off his bill at 150 every three months from his limited income, even thought he was adamant he had done nothing wrong.

BT's statement said: "We are pleased the customer has accepted this as a final and amicable solution, to this particular issue."
