John made his work from pieces of card to form a relief |
One of the most famous names in English art - John Constable - has once again been attracting critical acclaim. John Constable, aged six, is the great, great, great, great grandson of the famous painter and like his relative, is a dab-hand with a paint brush.
John, of Glemham, in Suffolk, has won a prize in the younger children category of the Young Art East Anglia contest.
The Easton Primary School pupil impressed judges with his tug boat - made from pieces of card.
The youngster said he was pleased with his efforts, which won him second prize - a sketch book.
"I would like to go on painting for a long time and would like to be like my great, great, great, great grandfather," he told BBC Look East.
John's work won him second prize in the competition |
His father, another John Constable, 40, said he was proud of his son's work and thought the more famous of their namesakes would be too. He said: "My ancestor the painter would be very pleased, I imagine, that his descendant was showing an interest in painting.
"John has various ambitions, one day he is designing robots and the next he wants to be a painter."
John was beaten into second place - in a competition which attracted about 1,000 entries - by Gabrielle Patterson with her drawing of a teddy bear.
