The plans could see a wind farm built in Suffolk

Hertfordshire-based Tradelink Solutions has put forward the idea to Mid Suffolk District Council for inclusion in its local plan.

The plan, which is in its very early stages, is for eight 80-metre high turbines in a field not far from the existing television mast.

In a report to the council Tradelink Solutions, which is based in Chorleywood, says the proposal will "help the area towards its renewable energy targets".

It says "local contractors during construction and operation".

Swaffham in Norfolk already has a wind farm

The report adds that the land beneath the turbines will continue to be farmed and so the plan will also safeguard local agriculture.

But the proposals have been criticised by local people.

Charles Tilbury, who represents Wetheringsett on Mid Suffolk District Council, said he would like to see detailed plans on the impact the wind farm would have on the area.

A spokeswoman for Mid Suffolk District Council said the proposals for the local plan will go to public consultation in January 2004.

'Disquiet among residents'

Parish councils are expected to be consulted in October 2003.

"There is disquiet among local residents about this," he said.

"For those living nearby it would be rather off-putting. It would be an eyesore.

"From what I understand most wind farms are sited offshore where they don't offend anyone and get more wind.
