Mr Mason is alleged to have made racist comments to Jason Euell

A man has appeared in court charged with racially abusing a football player during a Carling Cup match last month.

Robert Mason, 47, of Bradwell Lane, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, was granted unconditional bail at Fenton Magistrates' Court.

He is alleged to have made racist comments to Blackpool's Jason Euell at Stoke City's Britannia Stadium on 22 September.

Mr Mason was ordered to appear at the same court again on 10 November.

He was not required to enter a plea to the charge of racially aggravated threatening behaviour.
