Market traders use heart machine

Market traders in Stoke-on-Trent have been given a defibrillator so they can help anyone who may be taken ill.

Longton Market officer Charlotte Wright-Bevans and eight traders have been trained to operate the machine.

The equipment administers a shock to restore a heart's normal rhythm, until professional help arrives.

The machine can also be taken into the town as well as used in the market. A council spokesman said having the machine in towns helped save lives.
